Electrical Installation for a Youth Centre Refurbishment in the South Wales Valleys
Earlier this year, GMI Electrical completed the electrical installation as part of major refurbishment works at a youth centre in the South Wales Valleys. Our scope included new distribution equipment, small power, Thorn lighting and containment, together with the electrical supplies for a newly retrofitted air source heat pump.
This was our first project for the client, and we have since worked together on many others.
Electrical installation as part of the refurbishment
The installation covered the electrical infrastructure behind the finished spaces, as well as the sockets and lighting used day to day. Our scope included:
New electrical distribution equipment.
Small power wiring and socket outlets.
New lighting throughout using Thorn fittings.
New containment to route and support the cabling.
Electrical supplies for the retrofitted air source heat pump.
Installing the distribution equipment, wiring and containment as part of one project allowed these elements to be brought together across the building. The new containment provided organised cable routes for the power and lighting installation.
Thorn lighting throughout the centre
We installed Thorn lighting throughout, including the main seating and dining area and the kitchen shown in the project photographs.
The main room features recessed ceiling fittings, while linear fittings serve the kitchen. These spaces have different uses, and the lighting forms an important part of making each area practical for the people using it.
Electrical supplies for the air source heat pump
The refurbishment also included a newly retrofitted air source heat pump. GMI Electrical installed the electrical supplies serving the system as part of the wider electrical installation.
This brought the new heating equipment into the electrical scope alongside the centre's everyday power and lighting requirements.
