65 kW Solar PV Installation in South Wales
GMI Electrical has completed a 65 kW solar PV installation in South Wales, with the system designed around the building’s long operating hours. The installation uses a SolarEdge SE50K inverter and an east–west panel layout to help match solar generation to the times the building is in use.

Why we chose an east–west solar layout
In a building that operates for long hours, when electricity is generated matters as well as how much is generated.
East-facing panels capture morning sunlight, while west-facing panels make more use of the afternoon sun. Combining the two orientations can spread generation more evenly across the daylight hours, with less concentration around the midday peak of a typical south-facing array.
For this project, the aim was to make more solar electricity available during the building’s extended working day. A closer match between generation and demand can increase the amount of solar power used on site and reduce reliance on grid electricity during those hours.
Keeping the roof warranty in place
We worked in conjunction with a specialist roofing contractor to maintain the manufacturer’s warranty on the roof installation. Coordinating the solar and roofing works was an important part of the project, so the PV installation and the requirements of the roof were considered together.

Commercial solar PV in South Wales
Every building uses electricity differently. This project shows why the available roof space, operating hours and electricity demand all need to be considered when planning a solar installation.
